Do You Really Want to Ruin Your Day?

DON'T LET ANXIETY RUIN YOUR DAY

How to cope with anxiety was the topic at my hairdresser’s the other day. She was talking with a coworker about how one little snag in her routine can throw off her entire day; her anxiety building, causing her to be less and less effective and more & more stressed.

I shared what someone told me about a baseball coach’s advice about shaking off missed plays. I posed the question he asked the player, 'if he could walk back and forth at the same time? Obviously not, replied my hairdresser.' 'So then move on to the next task. Don’t stay stuck in things you can’t fix!'

When we obsess about what went wrong we hinder our ability to move past it. We actually let the thoughts fester and grow into old self-defeating maxims, which amplify our feelings of anxiety and lack of control. We ruin our day and give too much power to whatever triggered these feelings.

In Luke 12: 25-26 Jesus says, "And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? If then you are not able to do so small a thing as that, why do you worry about the rest?"
